Visitor information and reservations for Fairbanks hotels, tours, and transportation is just a click away.
Fairbanks is located in the heart of interior Alaska about 370 miles north of Anchorage by car. Fairbanks is Alaska's second largest city with over 80,000 residents in the greater Fairbanks area. The town features dozens of great restaurants, tours and attractions, as well as a nice selection of hotels, motels, inns and bed and breakfasts. Top tours or attractions include the Alaska riverboat discovery cruise and the University of Alaska museum.
Although more hotel rooms are being built each year, hotel rooms can still be scarce during the peak season of June through August. Reserve your room early and expect to pay $179 to $199 for a nice room for two. Our favorite Fairbanks hotel is located on the Chena River, which runs through Fairbanks and offers some beautiful Alaskan scenery. The River's Edge Resort is a nice family-run hotel offering beautiful private cottages in a riverside setting. Another good choice is Sophie Station Hotel, where every room is a well-appointed true suite. Both hotels are close to the Fairbanks airport as well as major attractions and shopping areas.
Most people travel to Fairbanks by the Alaska Railroad, rental car, or airplane. The Alaska Railroad offers daily summer service from Fairbanks each morning to Denali National Park, Talkeetna and Anchorage. Rental cars are available in both Anchorage or Fairbanks but drop fees can be substantial if you do not return the car to the same location. Many people fly into Fairbanks then tour to Anchorage or Seward and depart by plane or cruise ship, or vice versa.
